These Shoes Were Made for Walking [and Standing]

When traveling, you are likely to be exploring the cities by foot. Whether this is walking around the city, standing around at museums or in lines, or more, it is expected you will be on your feet the majority of the time. For this reason, you need good shoes! When I travel, I bring two pairs of sneakers, one that is better for standing and one that is better for walking.

For walking, I use the HOKA One One Clifton 4.

The HOKA One One Clifton 4s are stable and comfortable for walking miles through any city or destination

They are always improving and upgrading the Clifton series, but I like the Clifton 4 since they have a more stable base that cushions you when walking. The upgrades to the Cliftons (5 and 6) mostly have different designs and fits.

Do not let the bold colors of these shoes deter you, I got mine in black and white but they come in neon and bright colors to match any of your personal needs.

These shoes are great, they keep your feet ventilated, so you do not overheat or sweat in the shoes while walking. The design of the shoe helps your gait, so that you are not putting too much pressure on just one area of your foot, which means you can walk longer with ease. The shoe is also designed to reduce blistering and irritation, which can help your feet throughout your travels.

I never leave home without these shoes, and have worn them for over a year and traveled miles in them in comfort, even up this crater in Iceland.

The Clifton 4s (and the upgrades) are available in both Men's and Women's sizes.

For days when I know I will do a lot of standing and walking, I switch to my HOKA Hupana 2.

With less color options, these shoes are great with any outfit, as well as for walking and standing.

While these particular shoes are out of commission, the HOKA Hupana Flow have the same stability of these shoes and are the updated model. These shoes are lightweight and very comfortable that could be worn all day. The breathability is across the front of the foot allowing for more breathability and less sweating. The design of the shoe distributes the weight from the front to the heel, allowing you to be able to stand longer pain free.

I’ve traveled and worn these shoes during Oktoberfest in Munich (seen here), through 5 hour concerts in a pit, and more with minimal pain at the end of the day.

They run pretty true to size, but be mindful if you run wide or not. These shoes are not available in wides and it is best to have these fit precisely so that you can stand longer.

These are available in both Men's and Women's sizes.

While the right shoes are important, for even better foot care while traveling and to ensure I can keep moving throughout my trip, I switch out my soles for more cushiony ones. Like having different shoes for walking and standing, I have different soles for each shoe.

For walking shoes, I switch out the inserts in the HOKA One One Clifton for the Dr. Scholl’s Memory Fit Insoles with Massaging Gel Advanced.

These insoles are designed for people who experience discomfort from foot and leg fatigue. The insert conforms to the shape of your foot for support and cushioning with each step. With the insert you are able to walk more miles in comfort rather than in pain. With these I did have to trim them down to make sure they fit my shoe perfectly.

For standing shoes, I recommend Dr. Scholl’s Fitness Walking Insoles.

These insoles reduce the stress and strain on your lower back, which help while standing for long periods of time. They also have arch and heel support, which reduce leg and foot fatigue. I did have to trim them down to fit better with the shoe and my size. These soles along with the design of the HOKA Hupana ensure you are able to stand and walk longer during your trips.

Before switching to the different HOKA shoes, my time walking and standing while traveling was limited. I would be icing my feet or missing out on activities. Now, with these shoes assistance, I can do more and for longer periods of time. I have only tried the HOKAs brand, but if you have any other suggestions, let me know in the comments below.
